Every person has their own opinions regarding what makes a good movie. And good movies are hard to find because there are a lot of things that can ruin a movie.
The script can suck. Marketing can go wrong. Or the actors and directors might not work together well.
More often than not a movie is deemed as unsuccessful if it doesn’t make enough money. Sometimes there are just lots of mistakes that are made and things just don’t go as planned. It can take a lot of takes to get things right. But sometimes when things go wrong, they actually are going right.

1) The Silence of The Lambs – The Hiss Scene
Anthony Hopkins used to make a hissing noise during rehearsals to scare Jodie Foster. He ended up using it to create a creepy moment in The Silence of The Lambs. That scene and the less than 25 minutes that he was in the film earned him an Academy Award.

2) True Lies – Sexy Dance Scene
We all remember the scene in True Lies where Jamie Lee Curtis’ character is doing a sexy dance. But Curtis actually fell during the scene. You can see Arnold Schwarzenegger attempt to help her but she jumped up and continued to dance. It fit the clumsy character so they kept it in the movie.

3) Raiders of the Lost Ark – Sword vs. Gun Scene
The scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indiana Jones looks like he’s about to engage in a sword fight only to pull out his gun and shoot a guy is hilarious. But it wasn’t supposed to be in the movie. Harrison Ford got food poisoning and couldn’t perform the full action scene on film day which was rehearsed for weeks. So they improvised and made it more humorous than action-packed.

4) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – Flying Knife Scene
This scene actually has a crazy story behind it. The actor throwing the knife missed and it ended up going straight toward Viggo Mortensen. Thankfully he took some fencing lessons and was able to fend it off with his sword.

George Clooney is a pretty funny dude. That’s why they left his hilarious joke in From Dusk Till Dawn. It’s the scene where the vampire says “Welcome to slavery” and Clooney improvises and says “No thanks, I already have a wife.”

6) Spider-Man – Learning to Use A Web
Actor Tobey Maguire thought the movie Spider-Man needed a scene where Spider-Man has to learn how to, well, be Spider-Man. It shows Peter Parker learning how to shoot his spider webs. The scene was so good it stayed in the movie.

What would Thor do after a long day? He’d come up and hang up his hammer. Or at least that’s what Chris Hemsworth thought he’d do. So, the improvisation stayed in the movie.

Don Corleone never had a cat in the script of The Godfather. But when a cat appeared on set, Marlon Brando scooped it up. It came off as a good contrast to Corleone talking about beating up a guy.

Sylvester Stallone was running through a real market during this scene in Rocky. The budget wasn’t big enough to afford a crowd scene. So, when a seller threw an orange to Rocky in the movie, that was real.

Malfoy’s response to Harry Potter disguised with Polyjuice potion is improvised. Tom Felton forgot his line. So, when Harry said, “I was reading,” Felton replied: “Reading? I didn’t know you could read.” It fit in perfectly with the character of Malfoy so they kept it.

It takes a lot of professional skill to almost get hit by a car and stay in character. But that’s exactly what Dustin Hoffman did when he was almost hit by a taxi in the movie Midnight Cowboy. The result was the famous line: “Hey, can’t you see I’m walking here?!”

One of Pretty Woman’s more famous scene’s is when Vivian is presented with a fancy jewel necklace. Edward then slams the box closed on her fingers as a joke. That was a joke in real life. Julia Roberts’ laughing reaction was left in the film.

A hilarious scene from Good Will Hunting involves Robin Williams’ character telling a story about his late wife’s fart. It caused Matt Damon’s character to laugh hysterically.
