We think that we are familiar with something, but it’s no surprise that there are a lot more things in the world that we don’t know about. What a fascinating and strange place we live in, where there is so much mystery going on that can’t be explained by science.

Over the years, people have discovered a number of mysteries in the world. Whether it’s a living creature that looks seems like an alien, or a historical artifact found under the sea, there’s always something going on out there.

Maybe at some point in your life, you’ll be the one who makes an unusual discovery yet to be revealed. If you are a type of person who enjoys finding something that is SO out of the ordinary that’s even surreal, you might enjoy these list of the weirdest discoveries in the world!

A sunken World War I submarine was found intact with 23 bodies still inside.

The type UB-II submarine seems to be in decent shape.

In good condition according to experts, the UB-II is currently lying about 100 feet below the surface of the water, just slightly off the coast in the North Sea. Researchers have been reluctant to share the exact location due to fears of possible looting and destruction.

It’s reported that the vessel is about 88 feet long, 20 feet wide, and lying on the sea bottom at roughly a 45-degree angle.

From the looks of it, all 23 crew members from this particular UB-II appear to be intact and preserved inside the vessel. Due to the massive passage of time and exposure to the elements, this is an exciting discovery for researchers.

Divers discovered what’s at the bottom of the mysterious “Great Blue Hole” in Belize.

Located off the coast of Belize, the Great Blue Hole is a giant marine sinkhole, measuring almost 1,000 feet wide, making it the second largest marine sinkhole in the world.

Entrepreneur, Richard Branson, decided to finally explore the hole.

Branson journeyed into the hole with Fabien Cousteau and Erika Bergman, both explorers in their own right.

After ten minutes the gang saw a “breathtakingly beautiful” stalactite. In his blog on the experience, Branson described every wonderful sight in detail.

‘The Blue Hole is made of a complex system of caves that once formed on dry land. It is proof of how oceans can rise quickly and catastrophically,” he wrote.

A mysterious island appeared in the Pacific, baffling scientists.

Now, NASA has said this was just ice—but Melvin wrote that whatever he saw was “translucent, curved, organic looking.” How interesting!

As far as we were all concerned, Pluto was the final planet in our solar system—and then Eris was discovered. Eris is 27% bigger than Pluto, and then both were de-classified as dwarf planets.

It was discovered that space travel alters your very DNA.

Yes, you read that right! NASA discovered this by running tests on identical twins: astronaut Scott Kelly spent a year in space aboard the International Space Station, while his twin, Mark, remained on Earth. After two years of study, NASA confirmed that 7% of Scott’s genes were different.

The Fernandina tortoise (or chelonoidis phantasticus) has not been sighted for over a hundred years.

Before our beloved laptops, there was the Antikythera mechanism.  It was discovered sometime between 1900 and 1901 off of a Greek island. It’s thought to be the earliest draft of a computer.

Human remains, artwork and wooden furniture were all found in the ocean. Researches guess the artifacts are roughly 9,500 years old.
